About
the Duo...
Fredda Farr Burton and Mary Joyce Higgins have been performing
together since 1995. Their combination of flute and classical
guitar produce a pleasing sound that delights all audiences.
A
professional flutist, Fredda earned a Bachelor of Music
Education Degree from Stetson University in Deland, Florida
and a Master of Music in Performance at UTC. Her teachers
have been Geoffrey Gilbert, Robert Morris, Patricia George,
Eric Hoover and Janet Hale.
Fredda currently teaches flute at Lee University and general
music at Taylor Elementary School in Cleveland. She conducts
Master Classes on a regular basis throughout the area. She
has toured Europe performing as a soloist with the Lee Chamber
Orchestra. Fredda performs with the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra
as a flute and piccolo substitute. She also performs with
the Chattanooga Area Flute Choir, Chattanooga Concert Band,
and the Lee University Community Chamber Orchestra.
Mary
Joyce studied with Mario Abril, a nationally known classical
guitarist, composer and arranger, while obtaining her Bachelor
of Music Degree in Classical Guitar at UTC. She has received
various scholarships, and won an audition to study in a master's
class with world-renowned classical guitarist Oscar Ghiglio
in Banff, Canada.
She has performed with the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra
on the mandolin, playing Canzonetta "Deh vieni alla finestra"
from the opera Don Giovanni by Mozart. She also played the
classical guitar in the opera Carmen by Bizet with the CSO.
Mary Joyce is a professional musician who teaches guitar
in the Cleveland area and is a public school music teacher.
Fredda and Mary Joyce have toured through various parts
of the United States performing concerts and weddings. They
perform
a variety of musical styles from Classical to Pop. They currently
have a Christmas CD and a Wedding
CD available.
